I have the first td6 sold in Australia, and at 105k miles the previous owner had a rebuilt trans put in by the local land rover dealer, then a few weeks later I bought the car. At 140k miles I had the trans flushed by the local land rover specialist. At 155k miles I noticed a slight shudder, dropped the trans oil which was black but not showing metal or shine. I had the torque converter replaced and the car drove fine.

Now at 165k miles the trans is taking 2-4 seconds to change from 4th to 5th during which the revs get up to about 4k and when it does go to 5th its with a thud. Otherwise all functions are fine no errors and all other gears appear fine.

Any advice? Should I just have it replaced as whole again?

As a first try, I’d be tempted to swap around the 4-5 shift solenoid valve with one of the other two and see if the problem moves with it

Also might be worth checking the piston & spring in the overdrive clutch accumulator

Thanks Phil for your time!

I can try those without dropping the trans, that's great!
