I have a 1995 Range Rover Classic LWB with a 4.2L that seems to be a bit low on power. I'm tired of chasing down the culprit, and have found a 3.9L V8 for sale near me.

Is there much to this swap? Right now, my RRCC drives like it has 80HP, so 160HP from a 3.9L seems like an upgrade.

Thanks guys,
Paul

4.2 engine sounds like the cam and proberly a overhaul is due.
dropping the 3.9 is ok but what fuel mpg you had will be lost 3.9 in good condition 180 ish bhp/4.2 in good condition 210ish bhp big drop and better to fix what you have

G'day,

Personally - if I had a 4.2 (which I don't) there is no way this side of Bourke that I'd swap it out, unless it was for same or bigger capacity !

My two bobs worth.....

Cheers
Rod

It would be better to swap in a 4.6 short block, I am pretty sure your front cover will work. This has been beat into the ground on the discoweb, I am not sure what the details are but its well worth it. The 3.9 is going backwards, I am sure you could even find a 4.2 if you looked.
