First, i have searched, cannot find what I am looking for.

What size is the factory subwoofer for the single-sub setup (11 speakers)? and what is a viable replacement that is not overly expensive? I have a spare subwoofer mounting panel (square, goes inside the box) and am willing to cut if i have to. Any ideas?

that is weird...im not a stereo guy, but factory measures 7.5" across, and the opening is 6.75". a standard 8" sub will fit? and is it difficult to install/wire an 8" sub?

look for dimensions of 8" subs online. Most will fit, but I'm sure there are some that won't.

Get a dual voice coil one. Depending on your system it will either be 8 ohm or 4 ohm... the later years 01+ typically had dual 4 ohm voice coils. If you feel more comfortable with the stock speaker, I have an extra one I can sell you. It's in good shape. Personally though, I'd get a new aftermarket one. Be more concerned with the SPL rating than the wattage, as the stock amp is tiny.
