Hello all, whilst driving yesterday my rover developed a strange rattle/tap that is only present during engine revs. I have been trying all day to fix but have had no luck. I do have an exhaust leak which I patched and I tried to remove the wrap / repatch which made no difference. I was also due for a oil change so I did that too with no luck. Anyone have any ideas as it is really irritating / frustrating. Thanks.

p38rangebryce,

I have this sameish problem, except all the time and only louder when accelerating. I have decided that my problem is probably a rod that's out. This might be the same for you, just only developing. Don't necessarily take my word for it though.

Best of Luck to ya!,

My under load rpm dependent rattle that sounded like the engine was racing to self destruction was broken welds on the heat shield on top of the muffler.

Great fun when towing up I-5 from southern Oregon wondering how far it will go before it blows up.

A rod out, I suspect is either a failed tapped, or broken rocker cup allowing the push rod to move,
you say you unwrapped the manifold due to a blow, you need to sort that first before you try and chase a tapping noise, but, I would say as I’ve mentioned will be your problem
