STIFF STEERING / FAN BELT SCREEMING

Hi,

I recently had a new alternator and belt fitted. Now the fan belt screeches now and again and tonight my steering went all funny as if the power steering was not working??? Are these two problems connected in any way ? Seemed to be some smoke coming from the engine aswell .................

I am going to take back to garage tomorrow but I need to know if these problems have been caused by bad workmanship.

Any advice welcome.
