I've got a sticky solenoid. Fortunately the jack handles do a neat job of letting me turn the key and whack the solenoid at the same time, but it's getting a bit boring.

I've been told that I probably need to replace the whole starter, as the solenoid itself isn't swappable. Is this true?

Secondly, one of the better quotes I have for a replacement motor (supplied, fitted and guaranteed) only lists 1988-on. Is this just a failure to communicate or did something actually change in 88 that would stop them fitting this motor to my 86/87 Hi-line?

Re: Sterter motor (& solenoid) questions

Thanks James. It may just be an availability thing here - everyone asks if it is a Bosch, and when I tell them it's a Lucas they kind of shudder and laugh a bit and say no.

It looks a lot easier to change the solenoid than the whole motor so I'm tempted to buy a new solenoid online. Did you happen to find a reliable cross-reference?
