Range Rovers have always had a split tailgate (upper / lower), dating all the way back to the first classics so that you had somewhere to sit. Are you saying the new models have a one piece lid? If so, that sucks.

What year did RR decide to change their split trunk lids to one-piece?

Just curious...
Confused.
The post title sounds like you're asking when the split, clamshell hatch/tailgate began. Then reading your question, it sounds like you're asking when it changed to a single hatch.

Was it ever anything other than the split tailgate?

That's not a Range Rover, it's a Sport. AFAIK Range Rovers sstill have the split design rear end and the Sports have always had a full hatch with opening glass.

It clearly says Range Rover on the back, but I am with you in what i think your intent was. I consider a Range Rover sport as much of a Range Rover as I consider a Jaguar X Type part of the Jaguar family. Which is to say I don't :snooty:
