What doesn't give is you with rig information, a header that makes sense to anyone browsing or a hint of what you have already searched and read up on.

Re: Another tech question!!

Use another battery, new from the package.

A known good battery is not good enough. The message is triggered at 2.44v in the key battery, and is not removed until the truck sees above 2.95v in the key battery, and considering that a 2032 battery is rated at 3v to begin with, one that has been used in something else, or has been in a drawer somewhere is not good enough to get rid of the message.

This is assuming it is a 10-11my truck, if it is a '12, go to the dealership, they will replace your key (if they're up to date on their SSMs)

Re: Another tech question!!

You said it is a '10. Them replacing the key applies to the '12.

The key would be covered under the warranty, and the battery for it would as well, so if you are near a dealership, stop by, and they should be able to put a good battery in your key and have everything working correctly.

Special Service Message was recently issued to dealers about this, as RG7 says try again with a brand new battery out of a package.

Title 10my `Smart key battery low` message displayed in instrument pack message center
CategoryElectrical
Last modified05-Apr-2012 00:00:00
Symptom204000 Instrumentation
ContentVehicles affected, 10my Range Rover, Range Rover Sport, Discovery4/LR4

Issue
When the " Smart key battery low" message is displayed in the instrument pack message center dealers are complaining that after a replacement battery has been fitted the message does not disappear. The dealer then replaces the key in the belief that the key is faulty.

Cause
Dealers are swapping batteries from known good smart keys to diagnose battery low message or fitting aged batteries off the shelf. The message is displayed when the smart key voltage threshold has dropped below 2.44 volts. The message will clear if the smart key battery threshold is higher than 2.95 volts.
Note: these voltages are only measurable when the battery is inserted in the smart key.
Action
When the " Smart key battery low" message is displayed in the instrument pack message center dealer technicians and customers must fit a NEW still in the packet battery.
Under no circumstances should you swap batteries from a known "good" smart key.
LR part number is YWK10003L. (battery type CR2032)
Please note: CR2032 batteries stored in high humidity +75% & at high ambient temperatures greater then (+25degC) will greatly reduce its shelf life.
After replacement of the battery two smart key authentications need to take place to clear the message and to recognize the new battery voltage.
This is achieved by pressing any button on the smart key twice.
If the "Smart key battery low" message does not clear in the message center fit another new battery and retry.
If the "Smart key battery low" message is still present please replace the smart key, submit an EPQR and retain the smart key and all associated batteries for investigation. Please label the original battery and replaced battery separately.
And RG7 is also correct about the 2012s, problem is "under analysis" currently:

Re: Another tech question!!

Just had this problem with my 2013 sport. Replaced the battery, but it still showed the error until I pressed the lock and unlock buttons on the smart key twice. Worked like a charm. This site is a great resource
