Hmmm, ZF identify their solenoids by number rather than by letter so a bit of guess work is required here. There are five pressure control solenoids and three shift solenoids on a 5HP24 so I would guess that ‘shift solenoid C’ is referring to MV3 on the end of the row :





This solenoid’s only job in life is to intervene (by activating the RG-V valve) if the driver inadvertently moves the shift lever into reverse while the vehicle is travelling forwards at speed.

Replacement is so straight forward that it’s actually covered in RAVE :
