Usually triggered by emissions related fault. The trigger can be a whole gamut of things. Have you checked the codes your OBD is registering?

2001 RR. Just had this light go on yesterday. I'm not sure what triggers this. Vehicle has 96K miles. Oil was changed 1,000 miles ago. Tune up 2,000 miles ago. Is it just triggered by a mileage counter of some sort or does this indicate some other problem? Thanks.
