My Fatty started one day only going up the 3rd gear. The next day it let me down next to the road with a Transmission overheat warning message

Was transpoted to the dealer ( 2 days before the guarantee expired ) , and was informed yesterday that the Torque Convertor is faulty and will be replaced at their expense

Questions: Can a faulty Torque Convertor result in the overheat warning ?
If yes, could anything else got damaged because of the faulty convertor, or could the convertor fail because of something else ?

I’m a complete newbie when it comes to automatic gearboxes.

more than likely it's been poorly maintained and the bottom of the radiator is clogged and the tranny fluid heat exchanger is not able to do it's job.
