Roof Ladder

Is there anyone that makes a ladder for a Classic? I have been searching like mad trying to find something. Is there even a way of mounting a ladder on a Classic with the lift glass and tailgate?

I've got a guy that can make anything. He will be making my roof rack, bumpers, grill guard and now that you mention it maybe a ladder. Thanks
i have a ladder for my 93 classic w/ full roof rack. no markings on it of any sort. it may be fabricated. it's professionally done though. powder coated. has a curve to it to mirror the rear of the classic. two handles on either side to grab. it's pretty thin. sorry. can't help on where it came from. but somebody has made one. i got it off ebay.

A picture would be terrific. The only two ladders I have ever seen on Classics were drivers side mounted so as to allow full access to hatch and gate. They were both very tight fitting to the body.
Yes, please: We want photos!

I've seen a couple of photos of one (or ones--I don't recall) that were rear mounted and articulated to swing up with the upper tailgate. As far as I've heard, every one out there is custom--I've yet to see any advertisement for a manufactured example. I thought I had saved these photos but can't find them.
ahhh... i was afraid somebody would like a photo. my wife is currently away w/ the digital. and my truck is on an island in the mississippi river. and i am in indianapolis. i do have the rack and ladder here. though it is unmounted at the moment. i could attempt to take a picture of just the ladder. or i could possibly perch the roof rack on something and affix the ladder to it. if just a photo of the ladder would help. i will try to post it.
TIm, thanks for posting those CT RR pics with the ladders; I'd forgotten that those had had them. The ladder appears to be a two-piece affair but I can't see how you get it out of the way to open the tailgate. Does each part swing with its tailgate? Perhaps that's it.
I am currently working on a design to incorporate the ladder into the rear tire carrier. The latter is attached to the carrier and when it swings closed the top of the ladder clips to the rear of the roof rack.
here's a fella that makes/sells them on ebay

really cool ones on there - make me want to make my own basket pretty badly. anyone know where i can get the brackets for something like that to install to the rain gutters? i've currently got some quick-n-easy ones on there, but they're too high off of the roof for a full basket. i'd like to to find some brackets similar to the baskets that are normally seen on land rovers
I emailed the guy that ZLandrum was referring to on eBay. He said for $150 + shipping he would make up a ladder for me. Here's his response to my email asking if he could make a ladder for the Classic:

Hi Colin,no problem; There's so many styles and designs, one design is to sleeve your rack with sch.40 pipe so it acts as a hing and swings or lifts up when you open the window or door and it would attach to your bumper with pins.the ladder would follow the contor of your back window and door.$150.00 plus S&H...Or try the spilt design ladder,or a side mount ladder that hooks onto your rack when you are using it and when your not just bolt the ladder on the side of your rack where the jack would go or the other side if you have a jack.Let me know what you think.Thanks.... Joe or call me @ 484-951-0176 I'm sure we can work something out...

What do you guys think?

Colin
I take it you already have a roof rack?

Seems like a pretty fair price.

Colin, for $150 I'd be interested in this for my RRC. Not sure how it would work with an aftermarket rear bumper. I don't currently have one but it is on the list...
rufant, I thought it seemed pretty fair.

As far as having a custom rear bumper, it sounds like the guy could incorporate that into the design. He custom fabricates these so I'm sure if you supplied him with a picture and maybe some measurements, he could take care of you.

He has some pictures of his racks on eBay. They look to be well made. I think I'm going to take him up on a ladder. I'm leaning towards the side mount ladder that would be removable. I think the one with the sleeve over the rack would rattle.

Colin
cool, i'm glad the guy is a good guy. sounds like a deal on the ladder, and would love to see how it looks once you get one.
