Reverse bulb replacement Q

4483 Views 6 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  McMud
I did a search with some results but not an exact match. If there is a thread I missed please refer me. :)

I know I have to remove the entire rear tail-lamp assemply to access the bulbs however can anyone tell me how you access the
(reverse) bulb
from the assembly on a 2010 RRS? There are some great photos posted of the back of the assemply but it
wasn't exactly clear to me how to open the (back) of the assemply to access the bulb.

I'm planning to replace the reverse bulb with LED ones but trying to save myself some time, stress (and possible damage) by asking the experts!

Thanks in advance for your time.

I believe Page 285 ( for an 06 )of the owners manual has it.

Not sure if you will run into any issues installing a LED light that has a different power rating - could get errors popping up similar to a incorrect brake lamp bulb.
Let us know how the LEDs look, especially whether the output/throw is improved.
Thanks ( Frisco_TX_RRS & keiphers ) for the reply. I will indeed post on the results and if I decide I like it enough to keep.

That said, I was hoping someone with a 2010+ could comment on how to access the reverse bulb from the back of the tail lamp
housing as it is different than '06 -'09 models. I wanted to "know" what to do before I actually made the effort to test the bulbs.

The below thread has some great photos showing the difference (of the back) of the 2010 tail lamps from previous years. However
it doesn't seem very clear to me from the pics which section can be removed/opened to access the bulb.

'10 tail lamp vs. earlier MYs:

Thanks again (to all) for your time!

see Page 86 of '10 manual - tried to attach it but file was too big. Use link below to get the 2010 manual and select lighting

This is a copy paste from the site
Rear lamp bulb
After the rear lamp unit has been removed, each bulb is accessible by twisting off its electrical connection cap.
1. Insert a small flat-bladed screwdriver
under the lamp unit and carefully prise the
lamp from the tailgate.
2. Twist the bulb holder counterclockwise to
unlock, then pull out the bulb complete
with electrical connector.
3. Pull the bulb out of the electrical
connector.
4. Insert a new bulb and refit the
components.

Thank you! That was very helpful. I already had an "account" with LR TOPIx but it never occured to me to check the owner's handbook!
I've since downloaded the PDF handbook for quick reference in the future.

Thanks again for your time!
