First, I have done a search and come up dry. Second, I realize this is much more than a software upgrade or screen swap.

For those of you familiar with BMWs, of which I am sure there are many, there is an aftermarket company called Bimmerretrofit that allows older model BMW owners to upgrade their iDrive systems to the latest and greatest - oftentimes involving installation of new hardware and software/some coding. I have looked around and not found anything like this for LR aside from the NaviPlus solution but that only nets you the Apple CarPlay functionality.

I am not certain what other changes happened to the l494 with regards to the onboard communications systems, etc. but, at a high level, I was curious if it is be possible to retrofit a 2017 infotainment system into a 2015.

The approach I was thinking of taking was finding a totaled 2017 l494, removing all the infotainment modules, screen, etc. and installing them into the 2015. I am sure it is not as easy as plug and play but just curious if anyone had insight into whether or not there are differences in the wiring? What kind of programming would be required?

Many will probably chime in and say just buy a new car but I like the one I have, a loire blue HSE with pretty much all the goodies including the twin speed Tx case, and this is more of a project to mess around with. If it is impossible its not the end of the world for me.

Guys,

Thanks for the information, WOW! this is great information. This looks doable but perhaps in the future when prices on parts come down and I am no longer DD'ing this RRS. I have coded things on BMWs but there is a large community out there for that so this would require lots of experimenting.

thanks again!
