My radiator has sprung a leak - at what looks like an old repair on the top and has signs of leakage on the matrix, so time to replace...

It's an auto diesel. RAVE says remove the viscous coupling, I presume to clear the radiator cowling. Is it possible - or sensible - to change the radiator without removing the v/c (to avoid having to get the v/c tools)?

Re: Replace diesel radiator without removing viscous coupling?

IIRC I had the radiator out when I changed the A/C condenser and I definitly didn't remove the fan or V/C

Re: Replace diesel radiator without removing viscous coupling?

Hi,

If you can manage to take the cover out of the way and let it hang in the fan you can do it. I think you will be better buying that tool or removing de VC with a normal wrench that fits because when you are trying to put everything together you can damage the new one or break something.. And If you have to pull out the radiator you have the opportunity to look and replace the termostat and the water pump, you have space to do this.. oh and replace the hoses too of course :)
