Hello all.

Today I had to do a repair on my rover and the manual instructed to disconnect the battery's negative lead, which I did.

After finishing the repair and reconnecting the battery a few hours later, the remote handsets (i.e. key fobs) are no longer synchronized and do not lock and unlock remotely.

I have tried every sync trick I could find on this website, owners manual, etc., but no luck. The remote was working fine before the battery disconnect.

Very frustrating. I plan on buying new key remote batteries tomorrow, but if that doesn't let me synch, what do I do?

What is the state of the alarm LED, centre base of the windscreen? If it's showing red at all it means the alarm is set. This inhibits resynchronisation.
Do you have EKA configured on your car? If so, that's the way to switch the alarm off.

Hi Chas, Alarm is not set, AFAIK (alarm LED not lit up)
I don't have EKA configured.

Hmm, if you have the '02 in your name, the fob should resynchronise when you switch the ignition on.
I assume you have tried that after using the key mechanically to open the door?
I assume you can start the engine, and it's just a fob synchronisation problem we are chasing?

It happened to me a couple of times. Even after starting the engine, it only re-synchronised itself after I mechanically opened the door a couple of times. and one time the key got stuck in the door lock and couldn't remove it for almost 20 minutes!!
if it's low battery it should show a message on your dash, right?

Yes, its in my name. Manual (i believe) states key should sync when inserted in the steering column.

I'm able to start the engine and operate it, but not arm alarm or lock/unlock remotely. Something similar happened years ago after a bad battery was replaced. Suppose I will start by replacing fob batteries but seems like the remote batteries are good if the brightness of the leds is any indicator. Talk about gremlins.

I would think so. I get absolutely no warning lights or messages. Any help greatly appreciated. Mike
