You're gonna think I'm nuts :shhh: but try the Dunlop Grandtrek WT M3 @$200 ea. Its a winter tire, but I run them year round. I've had them on an X5 and now my RRS. Quiet as a mouse, perform just as well in the dry as the stock Conti's and .... wait...they're terrific in snow and wet. I have about 15K on this set and I think they will easily make 30K--not bad for a soft compound snow. The X5 used to give me 'bout 30K on each pair. They have the advantage of not having a straight sidewall like the Conti's which protects the rim a bit. I have even used them for some offroading, but wouldn't suggest using them in anything bigger than babyheads.

Another good tire: for a non dedicated snowtire try the all season version of the Pirelli Scorpion.
