Hello all,

I am going to switch out my 22's for my stock 19's.

I don't want the Conti's on there because of the reviews I have read, and plus Tire Rack labled them as summer tires. Well winter is fast approaching here in KS, so I would like some actual RRS Driver recs on a good tire to get. I drive my son around a lot, and I dont want junk for shoes on my truck.

I would like to make my order by the end of the day and too lazy to search. Also dont want to break the bank on these.

Nupe,
You're gonna think I'm nuts :shhh: but try the Dunlop Grandtrek WT M3 @$200 ea. Its a winter tire, but I run them year round. I've had them on an X5 and now my RRS. Quiet as a mouse, perform just as well in the dry as the stock Conti's and .... wait...they're terrific in snow and wet. I have about 15K on this set and I think they will easily make 30K--not bad for a soft compound snow. The X5 used to give me 'bout 30K on each pair. They have the advantage of not having a straight sidewall like the Conti's which protects the rim a bit. I have even used them for some offroading, but wouldn't suggest using them in anything bigger than babyheads.

Another good tire: for a non dedicated snowtire try the all season version of the Pirelli Scorpion.

If your truck is not a S/C model - Pirelli, period ! I really prefer the Miche's, but the extra dollars may not justify your ride ?

What a coincidence-I just read on an earlier thread you mentioned you're a Civil Engineer, well join the club so am I (Spooky) !

I'm about to head overseas to the Solomon Islands for a 2 month stint in the tropics fixing up a "white elephant" development ?

Notice from an attached image the sort of daily conditions I'll be experiencing and I think a snorkel will be mandatory very soon.

Nice pic. Get one like that in a RRS in access mode though with the snorkel.

Yep I take the P.E. next spring. Cant wait. Still haven't started studyng yet.

Back On Topic I went with the 255/50R-19 Pirelli Scorpion Ice & Snow for my winter driving. Cant wait to test them out on a trip to MN. I will write a mini review, but the only thing I can compare them to are my 22's

I will sell 2 of my conti's and keep the other one as a spare when I find single RRS Rim. What is the oldest MY I can go for a basic stock rim. Do I have to stay with an RRS or can I widen the search to an LR3 or full sized.

The Australian RRS's came fitted with a full size spare 17inch alloy wheel bolted on the underside which fitted in perfectly dude !

I think this was standard on the original to MY07 build before the 'facelift' version in 2008 and I'm not sure on the current setup ?

I have the same for Pirellis for winter, they are great. Though like you, I have not compared them to anything else in the snow. Right now I still have the Cooper LTZs on, so maybe we'll get a snow here and I"ll have something to compare.

Are you in NA? HSE? You can go back to MY06 and anything that came on the Sport will work if so. NA equipped and HSE, you can go to the LR3 18s also. If staying with near stock sized tires I believe most of the 19s and 20s from the FF and LR3 will fit.

EDIT: Yes you're in NA.
