2003 Range Rover with BMW 4.4L V8 - Is it possible to rebuild the oil pump without removing the upper sump (which requires removing the differential and half-shaft running through it)?

I got this car with a damaged timing chain guide (plastic snapped and almost completely disintegrated - picture below). In addition to replacing the damaged timing components, I want to rebuild the oil pump. I'll have the front cover off the engine for the timing gear - does anyone know if that will give me enough access to remove the oil pump without having to remove the upper sump from the block?

If not - any shortcuts for removing the upper sump from what's in the workshop manual?

I've owned and maintained RR Classics for a while, this is my first project on a "new" Range Rover - looking forward to getting it running and seeing how it compares!
