Rear Entertainment Touch Screen Remote lights blinking only

The touch screen remote to the rear seat/screen entertainment system stopped functioning. 2 yellow lights flash every 3-4 seconds. The touch screen is inactive and non responsive as are the hard buttons. This is an OEM remote from a 2011 RR SC and charges in the center armrest compartment.

There's an earlier thread from a couple years ago about replacing the battery (then $40, now $90) didn't fix anything.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
