Hi all,

I’ve recently bought a 2012 RR V8 Vogue Tdi. It’s got the TV and DVD built into the front audio system. The one where you can see the TV/DVD in the passenger seat while the driver sees the sat nav (for example).

My local dealer has quoted me £540 to update the maps etc.

This seems a ridiculous amount, so has anyone got a cheaper solution out there that can help me please?

Thanks,

Ian

Firstly, you are a lucky duck, because that split screen option was not available for US customers! I'm sure health and safety.

Secondly, yes, that's the deal, you have to get the dealer to do the update. The price I was quoted here was 250 USD, so it's a bit more there, but maybe they will update more than just the maps. I'm not aware of any other options (though you may want to get a quote from another dealer).

Waze, or Google or Apple Maps on your iPhone - they have traffic and are free.

You pay a small fortune for a vehicle and then they want to soak you for map updates while my $75 TomTom has free updates for life and is way more functional. There ought to be a law......

How much could the roads have changed in 6 years, and what it the latest year they have updates for?

Hi Ian,

i live just along the coast from you in Portsmouth. i wouldn't bother with the map update, its a lot of money for not much reward. i`m using the 2010 map cd in my car and not a lot has changed on the roads to justify getting a newer version. you should put that money aside for when something goes wrong with your RR, because you know it will go wrong at some point ! i use the Wase app on my phone, its loads better and even tells you where the stupid mobile police speed camera vans are on any given day.
