I have two range Rover classics
one is a 1993 country LWB with a 4.2l engine
the second is a 1990 SWB with a 3.9l engine
1.)What i need to know is if i can take the 3.9 engine from the 1990
and put it in the 1993 where there is a 4.2(engine bad)?
2.) and if the transmissions would be a direct swap also?
3.) and would i have to swap the computers also?
4.) any other large hurdles in swapping the two engines?

Re: Range Rover 4.2 emgime swap

I think the only change might be the need to swap the engine mamngement computer.

The LWB was not sold with the 4.2 in Australia. It retained the 3.9 litre.

I just had a look at MicroCat and the engine ECU for some models was the same AMR1424 or AMR1424E for both the 3.9 and 4.2 - it depends on the VIN.

According to Microcat, that car is a 4.2 LWB and uses the AMR1424 or AMR1424E (exchange).

What about the other car?

The 1990 RR with the 3.9l engine
VIN is SALHV1244LA414805
According to MicroCat, that's a LHD 100" 3.9 litre using engine mangement ECU PRC9061

If you do an engine swap, I suspect you'll need to swap the ECU over. I'll check the airflow sensor as well.

A quick looks indicates they both use NTC2340. You can check both of yours.

Thank you
Do you happen to know anything about the transmission are they the same?
Will the 3.9 and tranny match up to hook up to the gear box exactly?
