I have a 2004 RR as well and I wanted to disconnect the battery for some electrical work. I contacted my local Land Rover dealer about the radio security code, as they did not sell me the car, they did not have a record of it. They told me to contact Land Rover USA. I called them. They requested me to fax over proof of ownership and they would call me back with the PIN. I had not even faxed the proof of ownership and they called me back already. The woman I spoke to mentioned that she could not locate a security code for my vehicle. She confirmed this with someone else at Land Rover USA, who told her that at the 2004 model does not have a radio security code.
I disconnected my battery for at least an hour and connected it again. No issues, just make sure you wait at least 2 minutes before disconnecting the battery after turning off the car and removing the key from the ignition. Also don't forget to fully turn the steering wheel from left to right when you start up the car the first time after connecting the battery.
