radio replacement issues

After many attempts to use the codes for my radio i gave up. I bought a Sony CD player to replace my RR tape deck. I understand that my 92' RRC has a subwoofer w/ amp(found it in the rear quarterpanel) and also 2 other amps for the door speakers and a CD changer. I cant find these door amps or CD changer. If they are there somewhere I dont think I can hook the powered speaker outs of the new stereo to the corresponding speaker wires without damaging the amps. I really want the whole system to work together as intended with a CD player. I was hoping to find somebody who has undertaken this.

Hi,

To my knowledge there aren't any door amps in a Classic, just 2 mounted on top of the sub, one which does 4 Channels, 2 Front, 2 Rear and a small Subwoofer Amp which is also on top of the sub. This lot is all fed from the front via screened cable to the rear.

You basically need a Head Unit with 3 Pre Outs on it, connect these up to the corresponding cables on the old DIN plug and it will work.

I bought a 10 Pin DIN connector to preserve my wiring and then terminated it with RCA's and plugged it into the back of the Head Unit.

Good Luck
I do have the 10pin connector going to the rear. I also have four 2tab connectors labeled for the 4 speakers that pluged into the original stereo. These are a good gauge and seemed to be powered outs for the speakers. If the 10pin carries the preamp signal of the 4speaks what are those for? Or do they just go to the amp in the back? Where exactly is the cd changer? I have a 92' county, are these standard or an option? Is there a handy way to test the wires to see if it is a powered or preamped signal carrier?

Hi,

Can you post a picture of the connectors, the US stereo was different to the UK and the US, both Soft and Hard Dash cars had a subwoofer control pot in the Aux Switch Panel.

Your CD changer should be in the rear of the car on the opposite side to your spare wheel, behind a panel. Although, I have seen these in all sorts of places, including the front passenger footwell, if you don't have a black round cable with a round Phono DIN type connector in the back of your Head Unit......you haven't got a CD Changer

Sorry when I said DIN, I meant ISO.
Thanks for the tips it definetly got me in the right direction. Unfortunatly the CD changer is MIA though the cable is there. The mini amp is not there, the sub is connected to the main amp as is the fr. spkrs. The rear spkrs come directly off the crossover. I also have the 90' spec harness for the powered outs still there but they are not connected to anything. The stereo I got only has one unpowered out and I cant get the fr. spkrs to work. I got a package with new spkrs so Im going to direct wire using some of the orig. harness. I can use the rear space for tow-straps and tool kits all of which is way more useful in my RR. I was also happy the the sub made a great addition to my TV entertainment center! Im going to post the entire system for sale soon if anybody needs spares.
