Question to headlights and bulbs experts?

Hi,

I've just gotten for almost free a pair of L322 2006 Bixenons Headlights (500 GBP value each) but those are incomplete : no D2S bulbs, no balasts...

I have the project to convert my P38 to those or the contrary

Can i use my existing H4 HID kit and fit it in place of a D2S bulb?
Would it work and those lenticulars things requires a special type of bulb because of the pattern. I'm ready to take the reflector off the H4 Bixenon kit.

I guess all that electrickery thing will be a great challenge.

Next is to make a system to have cornering lights like on the 2006.

PS : i do not want a L322 now that my P38 is almost fully prepared for expedition :snooty:
and you can't DIY a L322

No that's the first part of the job, 2nd part is to swap a L322 4.4 BMW engine
get a pair of correct bulbs for the headlights - D2S or whatever.... and some ballasts.....

Or just fit some good bulbs in your stock P38 headlights!

I wouldn't fancy your chances on that one!
As I'm not a friend of these "conversions" (read eg. http://www.danielsternlighting.com/tech ... sions.html for more information), at least not in the low beam part of the headlights, I'd recommend you to do at least this right, you should get the right bulbs, not some parts out of some strange kit that was probably assembled in China...
Re the ballasts, it depends on whether you want to continue experimenting with 25kV and cheap electronics...
If the connectors of the D2S bulbs don't match your ballasts you should get the right ballasts with the right connectors in any case, high voltage is something you should take very serious!

Or take the easy way, get a L322 and keep the P38a for offroading ;-)

To each his own, but I always feel bad about a P38a that's about to be chopped for some bling bling :crybaby2:
Or is it more light that you're after?

Hi Sigi,

I went to a friend that has one chopped and blinged blinged like Rogerson's. That guys owns a body chop and works well. All the doors and panels have also been smoothed for a modern look.
As any relifting, it looks nice from far and to all non Range Rover experts.
But, when you know that stuff, the thing looks like a mutant  because bonnet was not chopped, because stock bumper needs to be retrimmed.
So, i won't do it but i'll keep the lights for a 1st Gen L322 conversion to 2006 look :shhh:. I may keep those for a long time.

PS : have you seen the photos of my fuel tank guard installed on the topic?

Yes, I've seen the pics of the guard, and I already spoke to a friend with a press, he'll help me repairing the UPS damage on mine, we just need to make an appointment some time in the near future...
