hey guys i have arranged for powerchip to come down to the vancouver, BC area.
they are doing flashes and custom tunes on several cars and they have one for the RRS S/C (4.2L).
they are giving the flash at a special price of $990 (normally $1690) the gains are 45hp and 33tq.

anyways im going to have that done to mine and i wanted to let u guys in the BC and WA state area know about it.
if u guys are interested in this please let me know. they will be here on sept.28.

cheers!

I looked into this before, but based on their website, they don't seem to have one for the S/C. Is this a new development?

Forgive me for being a tuning n00b, but if the power gains can be so easily had with computer tweaks, then why don't they come that way from the factory. Is there a downside? A tradeoff?

Yeah...Can I get an extra 45hp on my reg sport or is that only for the S/C's?

With my Borla, Air intake (thanks again Jeff) and a chip mod, I would be smokin'!!!

the gains i posted applies to the 4.2L supercharged version. it would be different for the HSE, but u can give travis at Powerchip a call and ask him what they can do for yours. 18004950777

i dont know how new this development is but i just spoke with them directly and they have already flashed some and will be doing it to mine. im hoping ill get more since i already have a pulley and exhaust.

im not sure what the downside or trade off could/would be. but most cars do not come from the factory tuned to their maximum potential.

Bingo.
I wouldn't bother doing this without before and after dynos, as well as some sort of a guarantee.

they do have a 14 day satisfaction guarantee.

ill be getting custom tuning on the dyno for the CLS on that day but its a 2 wheel dyno.
im not sure if im going to bother dynoing the rrs. ill have to go to another shop beforehand and then come back again to do more runs.
as long as i can feel the gains on the rrs i will be happy.

I don't know too much about tuning but most performance cars seem to benefit from ECU tuning (Mercedes AMG (Renntech), Porsches, BMW, Mitsubishi EVO's, Subaru WRX, etc). You would think that it would come from the factory optimally tuned but many of these cars seem to gain significant performance gains.

The only reasoning that I can think of is that the factory ECU is tuned to be very broad (to accommodate different octanes and other factors) and with tuning, it becomes very specific. That's the only way I can see them actually gaining something. But, this is just a guess.

45 bhp for just a ECU tune would be a bit to high imho.

Would certainly recommend to do a before and after dyno, looking forward to what the real gains might be.

thats not too high of a gain for a supercharged or turbocharged car.
most forced induced cars gain at 40 or more hp and similar amounts of torque as well.

if the car was naturally aspirated then those types of gains would be far fetched.

i know its much better to dyno runs but in the end its a heavy suv and it will never be fast enough. ill save the speed for the AMG, i cant wait to see what kind of power ill be able to put down. im currently at 481whp and 562wtq on a conservative flash that is running rich. im hoping the custom tune and some new mods will push me to well over 500whp.

ill do my best to dyno the RRS but no promises.

A supercharged car is not the same as a Turbo charged one. With the latter you can usually also change the boost pressure via an ecu tune, and that is not the case with this supercharged car. Best effect is to lean the mixture, as they go very rich, but that is also for a reason. Don't go to lean imho, but this is where the gain lies, though not 45 bhp imo. Only a good before and after dyno will show this unfortunately (make sure you also check the A/F ratio, to be sure after the tune you are not to lean).

well even on stock AMG 55 supercharged cars people have gained around 40 hp or so with just a tune. people have also shown that on dynos, even more when u throw a pulley in the mix.
ill let PC deal with figuring out whats best for the rrs, its not going to be custom tune on the dyno so i dont know if ill have afr readings. they do know what they are doing and i trust them. they custom tuned my friend's E55 to about 550whp and that thing ran an [email protected] ET at the drag strip in 90 degree weather.

has anyone here ever dynoed their rrs?

Generally ECUs are set to a 'safe' setting. The manufacturers dont know what the conditions the cars will be in (altitude, fuel quality etc) so they might run them a little richer/leaner etc to prevent knocking/poor performance. Also each engine/car combination will have its own little quirks, which they don't account for in the factory tune.
So when you get them dyno'd and tuned, the tune is tailored specifically for your car and environment, allowing for a boost in power.

correction on my previous post above: the E55 ran [email protected]

the tune went well!
my cls is running great and picked up a lot more power across the whole power curve.

as for the RRS s/c flash, i love it, unfortunately i wasnt able to do before and after dyno runs.
throttle response is greatly improved, that lag i felt whenever i step on the gas is gone.
i can also feel the s/c kick in harder and faster, the car definitely accelerates faster now.

i do have a pulley and exhaust in the car so that probably help me to make more hp and tq, but before the tune i couldnt really feel the difference that those parts made.
anyways im very happy with it and it has made the RRS a lot more fun to drive.

if anyone is in my area and would like to try it out first hand please let me know via PM.

I had my 06 Vette (ECM) tuned, actually on a dyno. The horse power gain was about 30 at the motor (rear wheel is about 15%-20% less on an Automatic). But you can take that rear wheel BHP (that is what the dyno is actually measuring) and calculating the net increase at the motor (using the same 15% assumption). Most CLAIMS are increases at the motor...

They can also do things (on the vette atleast) about shift speed and pressure to make the car respond much better. GM put a lot of "nanny" gaurds in between shifts (retarding the timing to not kick the wheels loose) that can be removed by tuning also... so bottomline, with todays computer controlled cars, you can do quite a bit with computer tuning. Factors (as stated above) normally leave a lot on the table to address all octane levels, climates, etc, etc. Just like the darn "accept" screen on the Nav...safer (CYA) is always their preferred option.

That being said... $1k sounds very pricey. I paid $350 on the vette (including the dyno).

How effective is the powerchip, really? I've got an 06 RRS HSE and would really like even a little more power. Is it worth the $500 they want to charge? I spoke to Travis out there in CA as per your original note and he made some good points. Just being a little cautious about loading new software into my RRS's computer. Is it really worth it??

Strange thing... I just spoke to Travis not 2 days ago and he was going to email me the specs for the software for the RRS.
Never got it. Just called the 800 number and Travis's cell number and both say, "you have reached a number that has been disconnected or is no longer available". Does anyone know anything about that?

i just spoke with travis today and yesterday and they are still there.
there was a problem with the phone lines for a couple hours on the street where their building is so perhaps u called during that downtime.
as for his cell it was probably forwarded to the office number.

Do you know if this for Canadian customers? The US website still doesn't show anything for the RR S/C.

Actually, just checked for Canada and still says not available.

Do you know if this is going to become available through their website? Or, will calling your contact allow us to order?
