I have just replaced one of my power tailgate struts on 2012 range rover sport, as it has been creaking loudly lately upon opening and closing and sounded like it may break or snap.

Now that I have replaced it and connected it properly, the power lift option does not work (the power button in the tailgate bottom does not even actuate the lock), and the new strut has absolutely no give to even manually close the trunk. I put the old one back on, and have the same issue - no power, no give in the strut.

Is there a trick to resetting things and getting the strut to actually move after replacing these?
