A 28-year-old man likely suffocated after his SUV fell on him as he worked on the vehicle in the driveway of his new Middletown house Thursday afternoon, police said.

Nicholas Dougherty of Quickset Road in Quincy Hollow section of the township had used a bottle jack to raise his green, older model Jeep Grand Cherokee so he could work on the exhaust system, neighbors said.

Police said he was fine when a Comcast service crew arrived to work inside his home about 3:55 p.m. But about 30 minutes later, one of Dougherty's three elementary school-age stepsons ran inside the house saying, "I need help, something's wrong."

At some point after the Comcast crew arrived, the vehicle had slipped on the jack and tipped over onto Dougherty's throat, police said.

One of the kids called 911, but it was too late.

Dont work alone.
Use stands. (or blocks)
Use a decent trolly jack especially if any significant work is being done.

Rules I stick to at home with the car and at work with jobs and I've never been unsure about my own safety when working.
