If you think it is the pinion or pinion seal, then have it replaced. The parts are about $70, and any competent mechanic should be able to do it for less than $100. replacing the oil might also be helpful. The breather tubes might be plugged up, but I doubt that is causing the noise.

lrscott, where are the breather tubes located? Do they need cleaning out often? Thanks for your help :wink:
