My 2001 P38 4.0 starts OK but runs very lumpy, with popping from the exhausts, until it warms up. It has to be nursed along for a few minutes and will die if given too much throttle. When the engine warms up it runs OK.
I have new plugs and Magnicore leads. Is it a choke fault?

hi kenny ,i had the same prob as what your saying but the longer i left it , it got to the stage were it was geting hard to start than i couldnt when dead cold .i found out it was the water temp sensor ( which acts like a choke ,works when cold than stops when hot) .
it sits in frount up top conected to wires ,if you unscrew it - it looks like has a long copper end which stays in the water and the black plug other end with 2 pins for elec conection sits above the motor (of coarse).
on my 1996 4L gems part no was ETC 8496 so on your thor may not be the same as my one which came in a lucas package .hope it might be it as its a cheap fix if you try this first /cheers
