Original 20" Stormer wheels corrode from out of the inside of the aluminum

I have original 20" Stormer wheels from 2007. They begin to corrode from out of the inside of the aluminum. Does any one else has this problem? I called Range Rover Importer in the Netherlands and a dealer in Hilversum, but they said that it isn't their problem, because the wheels are already from 2007. I'm realy angry about it, because people will not say; what a bad Stormer wheels, but will say: that rrs doesnt look good... Does any one has some advice?

So when was the last time you washed and waxed them while they were off the rig? Do you clean them when you rotate the tyres? Looking at the condition and filth I would agree with the shop. This is pure neglect.

Dude are you working with Range Rover...?. I wash my car every saterday. I only drive 2 times a week 280km on the highway. I thought I bought a off the road car with standard wheels from the dealer. If wheels turn, in 5,5 years, to this shape with only highway km's and never went off the road, then I think there is something wrong... And why do I only have this problem with 2 wheels? The other two look perfect. I already went to a steel factory where I spoke to a aluminum specialist, and he told me that something went wrong in the molding proces. So for sure I am not neglect my wheels!

You may wash your car every Saturday but you sure don't wash the insides of those rims. With that much build up and brake filth on the of course the paint is going to peel and expose the aluminum for corrosion. I see wheels peel and pit like this all the time and it is always due to lack of care on the insides. Sorry if you don;t like that idea but those really are quite filthy on the insides.

I personally like the one lug but that's still ridiculously rusty in this pic
Auto part Automotive wheel system Wheel Metal Rim

But aside from that those wheels have typical salt corrosion. I would assume but may be wrong that the 2 wheels that are corroding are on the windward side and get a nice salt breeze blowing towards them. The rusty lug nut shows a definite corrosive substance in the air.

Rrsport1. That's just a gauge to maintenance if a vehicle. Washing a car and maintenance cleaning are two very different things. I personally gauge people's vehicle maintenance by 2 things. Wheels and carpet. If either of these are just disgusting then there is a very good chance that other things aren't being taken care of.

To the op I am in no way bashing you or saying you don't do maintenance. I may be totally wrong but I have seen a lot of corroded aluminum over the years on cars and planes and that's what it all looks like. Anyone that lives near a beach will tell you salt air kills cars

My personal weapon of choice for that task is a toilet brush. One of the ol skool cheap wire loop ones. You can bend it to fit thru spokes and get all the way to inside edge of wheel. You can also lay down get a little wet and get it from the back but that always sucks.

So...the wheels looks like they are corroded, just buy another couple of them from Ebay and problem solved. Why you think Land Rover should be responsible for it is just a far fetched idea that the somehow well beyond warranty period they should be responsible. It's not the government...they don't owe you any compensation here. For $200 Euro you can get two new rims...'nuff said. Tot ziens!

I've never had this happen with any wheels and I don't wash and wax them. I take my vehicles through a car wash once every week or two, no special cleaning or treatment. Maybe some of the Armoral overspray acts as a protectant on the wheels :)

Thx Sparrky! I do exactly the same. My father in law has a RRS and drives a lot with his horsetrailer off the road. He doesn't care much about his car. If I don't wash his car, than nobody does it. No problems at al with his wheels. So maybe I'm just unlucky with two of my rims, but if somebody can show me the advertisement where I can get two Stormer rims for €200,-, please!
