I need to replace my oil pan due to the drain plug threads being stripped out, already had a mechanic tap it out and go up the next size but its still leaking. I was told it's a job consisting of removing the whole engine. Has anyone just replaced the oil pan from underneath?

I can't believe this is not repairable without removing the pan. Thread seal tape, even. Must be several tricks that will work.

There are 2 companies that make kits for this type of repair. Calvan and Timesert. You can do it without removing the pan. I use Timesert products all the time repairing Rover blocks.

Thanks for the quick reply, when i went on a search I was being to specific and couldnt find much. I like the steel insert with locktite idea.
