Good afternoon. It's been a while since i've been here. Probably because my RRS has been acting nicely. Recently, my mechanic said that there were a lot of transmission faults and that between 3 and 4 doesn't look good. Told me to sell it before it totally goes or drive it till it dies. I really like the car and don't want to buy another car. Told me it would be $10,000 to fix it. True? Not really mechanically inclined or equipped. Follow his advice and trade it? Or fix it? And if so, anybody know a good place here in Honolulu, HI?

Thanks.

Get another opinion. You could have a reman or salvage low mile trans put in for much, much less than that.

How many miles on it ? Was fluid ever changed ? If it is really shot - I'm not sure how much a remanufactured ZF6 would cost in Hawaii - but you could call a couple of other transmission specialists and ask what it would cost to rebuild yours. These transmissions are used in Fords and other vehicles - so there should be people out there familiar with ZF.

When my BMW transmission went at 127K miles - I pulled a used one from a salvage yard for $150 , and it ran perfectly. Might be hard to find a salvage unit in Hawaii for RRS/LR3 - but worth checking around. I'm guessing to ship from mainland would be prohibitive ?
