I recently bought a 93 Range rover, the wife and I think this is the perfect project car, however after driving it for 3 days, the check engine light came on and after doing some reading on this forum, I looked at the onboard diagnostic reader under the passenger seat. Completely blank. I set the car to position 2, and even tried it with the engine running. so now my question is, How do I check codes if the reader is busted? is there somewhere else I can plug a scanner into?

That is the only "code reader" on the truck and, afaik, a common fault.

I think that a better question is what symptoms is your truck showing to indicate that there's a need for the CEL?

On my 1990 RRC the CEL only comes on if I leave the MAF unplugged
On my 1995 RRC the CEL was a little bit more useful and let me know that the stepper motor and ignition wires were bad... but the engine was also running incredibly rough anyways.
