New MKII Owner - Old P38a Owner

2480 Views 9 Replies 6 Participants Last post by  ed1655
I just picked up a 2003 MKIII Range Rover. I have been a solid participant on the P38a forum for a couple of years. I have also been known to try and dive into the communications systems of these cars. I am hoping over the next few months to begin to communicate with the different MKIII computers. First on the list is the EAS.

I am hoping to get the same warm welcome on this forum as the previous. I am still keeping the P38a, but plan to start learning this new car inside and out. Here is to a new set of challanges and a whole new learning process. yeah....

Welcome! We are looking forward to your participation on this forum.

Looks like your side vents, and side lights have already been upgraded.
Yes the previous owner was very insistant that I pay extra for the upgraded "Supercharged" look alike upgrades. Everything from the rear badge to the front grill had been changed to immitate the expensive big brother. I was able to settle on a price where I did not have to pay for the cosmetic upgrades.

I pulled out my laptop last night and began to talk to the different Rover ECU subsystems.

My documeted departure;

Welcome to the MKIII forum .
I read that you are an expert with the trucks electronics ... thats good omen for the MKIII community .

Myself got my tgruck in Feb this year and am still delighted with it .
i do not believe in cosmetics as am satisfied with the looks of it , but I upgraded the satnav with An MKIV unit , and i intend to gradually upgrade performance through ECU remapping ( more for the torque than for the speed ) and later with a performance exhaust ( for the engine to breathe more freely and maybe a little more V8 gurgle ... ) and also some Cold air intake transformation , maybe .
Those transformations are the one i already had on my previous RRI classic LSE and it had transformed the truck .

So enjoy your new toy and come up soon with your best findings .

JayBear,
I spent some time with the P38a Fuel map and ignition timming chips. I only got so far as to do a dump of the chips and begin to try and find the different memory addresses that were responsible for the maps. I gave up as there were too many unknowns and barriers.

I would be interested to find out how the MKIII handles the engine ECU maps. Can we program them externally, for example. Or is there the need to relearn the Engine ECU and the BECM modules after the new chips are dropped in?

As far as remapping of ECU , i will have it done by a professionnal as i am a virgin to car electronics ( in fact to electronics period ) . But I already found 2 companies here in France who are able to do it for around 700 Euros . But on the other hand i like to understand a bit how it works in order not to be deceived by a vendor ...

PS I also saw what happened to your Hood ( bonnet ) , Very sad . Did it have anything to do with the Grill transformation done by the previous owner ?? or was it just that you did not close the **** thing properly yourself by inexperience of the MKIII?
those are also s/c wheels, i might add. welcome to the forum! :thumb:
