I picked up a new battery today for my 1997 4.6.

My local parts dealer gave me this, which is the recommended battery for my car:

I have since noticed that people recommend the larger capacity Diesel battery is used, so i may upgrade before it try anything else.

My problem is that the batter supplied is too deep to fit into the tray, only by about 5mm, but it wont drop down into the tray securely and sits up on one edge.

Has anyone else had this problem?

I measured the depth of the tray as about 168mm, the batter is near 173mm.....

Even the Diesel version appears to be the same depth http://www.tayna.co.uk/Type-250-Varta-Asia-Car-Battery-P3216.html

The Genuine Part diesel battery fits perfectly. If your p38 is a petrol, you may need to modify the securing bracket which holds the battery down. Other than that, it's a perfect battery with a perfect fit. That doesn't help you now you've spent your money though...

I took the battery back and got a 664 (same as what was in the car for that last 5 years at least). Perfect fit. Thanks for the comment.
