From time to time I am getting "Reduced Engine Performance" on the instrument cluster, although it usually corrects itself and goes away after two minutes. Additionally, this morning, I went over a speed bump on my way into work and my check engine light briefly lit up but then went away. GAP IID returns the following fault:

Engine Petrol
  • P0101-00 (26) Mass or volume air flow - circuit range/performance
    • Test Failed This Monitoring Cycle
    • Pending
    • Test Failed Since Last Clear

Is this just a "quirk or feature" that can be deferred to the next oil change or is it something I should address with a degree of concern? Not sure if my signature still shows with the forum update as I draft this so this is related to an '06 L320 Petrol V8 w/144k miles.

All sage wisdom and advice appreciated!

“Restricted performance” sometimes actually means (MUCH) less power that you’ll be missing nearly the next time you decide to make an unprotected left turn. You’re rolling the dice each time you drive it. Can you replace the MAF yourself?

I’m okay with having a non dealer specialist do the work. I don’t observe any change in performance when R.E.P. message pops up (And then goes away). Thus far no issues with left turns either (my morning commute is almost all left turns :) )Just wondering if it’s one of those issues where I need to worry about the engine seizing or throwing a timing chain.

Update: It was the MAF. Replacing it and the air filter solved all of my problems in life....okay, being honest, not all of them really, but my MPG went up from 19 to 19.2 so hey, baby steps.
