There is a theory that the oversized tyres on the car are not giving the correct rotation signals back to the computer hence the odometer keeps resetting - some also say that this can be an alternative reason why the cruise control does not work (after the mechanical aspect is correct) - has anyone heard of this before?

I think it's normal. At least my car acts the same way. Trip 1 resets every 1000 km, Trip 2 keeps counting. Cruise control works and tires are standard on mine.

errr no. Tyre size is not going to reset your odometer If tyre size were mixed you would have ABS/TC wrnings. If tyre size were changed your displayed speed would not be accurate but in no way would reset anything. Odometers can not be reset nor would they do so on their own. Main reason being that it is highly illegal in any developed country.
