Hi Kapila,
Although the engine castings are very similar, I understand the M57 sump is an inch or so longer compared with the M51, so it won't fit. The p38 version of the M51 sump as you know is an aluminium casting with extra oil capacity and is different from the M51 BMW car version.
The M57 sump I believe is a sheet steel fabrication? and it has to be modified to fit into the p38. A bit of welding is required. I remember a guy on here had problems with distortion and oil leaks from the sump.
I don't have any direct experience of the M57 engine so not sure how the ECU controls the boost.
I have a spare VNT turbo off an M57 though and I was planning on fitting it to my M51 diesel p38 with a stand alone turbo boost controller.
I may revisit the project if the lockdown goes on any longer.

Please let us know the details once you venture into VNT installation.
