I live at 6,000 feet and cross a pass of 8,000 feet once per week. Need more power from 1994 LWB with only 100,000 miles and running strong.

Turbo or supercharger are options by cannot find a kit that fits and do not want to do a one off installation.

Would an LS engine swap be a good option?

Thank you for the education.

Depends on your and/or your mechanic’s abilities. A “good option” is a broad statement. Once the swap is made, the issue that makes the decision of whether it was a good option is based on the ability to fix inevitable problems. All vehicles have or will have problems sometime in its life. When an engine throws a code, can you or your mechanic diagnose and repair it?

if you decide “yes”, then you have to design the swap. The LS v4 is a nice lightweight engine, but it depends on how much engine mount and suspension modifications you want to make. Some engines might go in with little adjustments.

I think you may want to find a good RR indie shop in your area and see what they recommend.

This is definitely a job for a professional.

None locally unfortunately although vehicle is now serviced by a very good local. mechanic. I will see what he says. Nearest RR specialist would be Salt Lake which is five hours away.

I am hoping to hear from someone who has made the swap and can speak to how difficult it is. Availability of adapter plates and compatibility with engine electronics are what interest me.

My first thought is actually an LS 3 not a V4.

Thank you for your reply.

Call Nick the owner of this company. Its not rocket science and he has taken all the guess work out of it. I did an LS swap using his adapter in a Defender 110 and im a shade tree mechanic at best.

I am in the middle of swapping a 5.3 LS into my 95 LWB. Engine and ZF4hp22 are mated using an ACE Conversion Beta kit for the Disco 1. I just ran into a snag with alt & PS pump mounting. Has anyone been this far with their LS > Classic swap that could give any advice?

if anyone is interested I can post some progress pics

Engine compartment cleaned up and mounts final welded into place.
Notes: Engine mounts included in the ACE kit were not usable. I used a “universal” kit from Amazon.
The center section of the core support was removed to make install of engine/ trans assembly. The plan is to make the core support center section bolt in and removable.

Engine / trans / transfer case and both drivelines installed. As you can see the steering box make the Alt / PS pump mounting a problem.

Note:It has been a minute since I have done a write up. Please excuse the individual posts.

I am over 2 years into this project now as I had to take some time off to get my head screwed on straight -

I am making good progress now and will update this thread as I go.
