My headlights used to switch off when I turn the ignition off, only parks stayed on
Now all of a sudden the headlights stay on
I can turn headlights on with ignition key removed
Is there a setting somewhere that I am missing, nothing on RSW software

In the country's where you must use lights also on daytime, normally the auto function is fitted. So if you start the car and lights switch is position 0, the lights are on and go off if you turn off the engine. Next two positions will work whenever the bulbs are fine and battery is not flat, no matter if the key is in or off.

The HID lights stopped working after almost a year, the relay had packed up
I put in the original globes - that is when the problem started
I bought a new relay and the problem is still there
When I turn the key off the lights stay on, it used to be ONLY with ignition on
It does give a beep and a message that the lights are on

Isn't this normal behaviour (or am I missing something from your description)?

Nope not that, and timer delay is off in diagnostics

In the past, if the car had been standing in the garage with key removed I could not put the main lights on without turning the key
Now I can

If I had been driving with main lights on, they went off when I turned the key off, now they stay on, for longer than 5 minutes anyway
In the past they went off and only parking lights stayed on

Also I see now the "Lights on" message does NOT appear when I turn the key off

Is that clearer?

Can you switch your main lights on and off without the key - ie removed or switched off?

Yep!
Just popped out to test...
No key:
Side light- brings up warning beep and Park on message display
Main- headlights on

Thanks, that sorts that out, strange that I have never in the past been able to switch on main lights with ignition off
I used to stop, turn key off and only the parks stayed on

All my BMWs were the same, I sometimes drove a Toyota pool car at work and often had a flat battery from leaving lights on
