Were you blasting Led Zeppelin ?? 
Definitely weird as in my ‘17 I would often get out with the key in my pocket and my wife would always comment on the dinging noise the car would make to let you know there was no key present. Also, just yesterday in the ‘18, I jumped out to get a coffee and got the same warning, but not as loud as the ‘17.
