Land Rover says the key fob is water resistant to 70 feet. Any other surfers out there who don't trust this and need a way to keep their sports secure? Leaving the keys on the beach is not an option. Can a duplicate of the metal portion of the key be made? Any help is appreciated.

I assume you want to leave the full key fob in the vehicle... and then carry around the duplicate "metal" key (that would only open the door)... I guess you'd need to check with a key maker to see if that's possible.

You should probably just hide the key on your vehicle somewhere; there are numerous solutions for that. And then you wouldn't need to worry about "losing" it.

Anyway, the key fob really is waterproof. If you are paranoid, put it in a small sealed zip-lock bag. And if it does fail, you can still get in your car and drive off... (The "security" portion of the key is RF ID style and not active electronics.) It would be covered under warranty.

Well: your vehicle came with two - why not test it to verify?
