Just installed RR 19"wheels and im getting a violent shake

I just installed Range Rover Sport 19" wheels and im getting violent shake past 55 mph. I did everything proper, I got the 06+Range Rover lug nuts and the hub centric rings and the shake is real bad. I also feel like im all over the road with them and ive also noticed that when it upshifts into 4th around 40mph, car will shake a bit, this is all ever since I just installed the new wheels. The tires have about 50% thread on them and two of them have very little uneven threadwear but still, not of my symptoms would be that extreme. Any thoughts. The stock wheels were 16" SE wheels.

Assuming all the correct parts were used, it is obviously something to do with the tires or wheels.
I would pull them off and take them to a GOOD tire shop that can balance them and check them for being out of round etc.

Thats a clean Rangi! Put the 16" wheels and tires back on...imo 28psi in the front and 34psi in the rear. Best ride...

not the steering box. it's the wheels. get them balanced.
He picked up a complete set of wheels and tires (with only delivery miles on them) for $1,000. Ian was still experiencing some steering judder with these wheels even with the shims, but later found his steering box needed adjusting (see the write ups of this problem for all P38s regardless of wheels at http://newrremedies.htm#steering ) and was causing the remaining shimmy -- which went away entirely after the adjustment. If anyone has experience with using these wheels,

HI when you put the rings on the hub was it a debri free surface and was the inner of the wheel free from debri have come across this problem before and it was the mating surface between the two that wasnt letting the wheel sit on a truly flat surface worth a look .also are the nuts torqued up correctly when i fitted mine one side worked loose again worth a look

if the old set didn't vibrate, wouldn't it make sense that the new vibes are caused by the new wheels?
fixing steering dampers and adjusting boxes only masks an existing problem.

ps...read the sticky on how to balance mk3 wheels. chances are it wasn't done, as it's a different machine and procedure.

So I guess you bought the rims to have (in your exact words) "Violent shake above 55mph".
I didn't think it was that difficult myself. You start with a good driving rig, you change wheels, and then it tries to kill you.
Hmmmm, lemme see here......Could it be the wheels/tires?
As I said in my first reply, take the wheels off, refit your old wheels and test drive to be sure it is the rims. If it drives good again, take the new 19's to a GOOD tire shop to have them checked out.
Trying to blame other parts for something you just swapped out is not uncommon. But I see it more in the Jeep world than here thank God.

Let us know when you take the wheels off and actually have them checked out. Hopefully it is a balance issue, and not an out of round tire etc...

Re: Just installed RR 19"wheels and im getting a violent shake

its definitely ever since I installed the rims, because I installed these rims 4 days ago and it was driving fine right before however, I noticed something different. I used to complain about a vibration that felt like it was coming from the front drive shaft ONLY when i coast from around 60-40mph but strictly when i let the truck coast, NOT when I accelerate. Now that I installed these new wheels/tires, the vibration when 60-40mph coasting totally went a away, which makes me think that vibration came from my 16" tires. Any thoughts? The 16" tires have an aggressive thread pattern while the 19"s i just installed are all-seasons.

Bud, this is my "other" rig....
[attachment=0:3shy85d9]rti-closeup-web.jpg[/attachment:3shy85d9]
Note my tires.
I get no vibrations at all, at any speed. I would know real quick as the wife drives it on a daily basis around town etc. I get tire humming and thats it. No shakes at all up to the 80mph the missus drives it at... :shhh:
Hell she drives it more than the RR most of the time, unless the weather is really bad.
I still say to remove the 19's, put the old 16's back on for a day or so, then get the 19's balanced and checked out. While you are typing in here, you could have swapped the rims and had them loaded up already!
So far as anything else wrong with your rig, only you can see it all, not us unfortunately.
