I just picked up a P38 Holland & Holland. Only 38 thousand miles. Perfect body and interior. All the extras still with the it - plastic trim/sheeting for the trunk, both bags, the decklid tray is not cracked or broken. Has the carpet mats and the rubber set. Only change I could see was a new stereo head, until I went to put the spare away and saw all the custom audio in the spare tire well. Was going to take the OEM stereo from my 99 HSE, but not anymore. It is such an incredible job on the audio - very well done, must have cost thousands & thousands of dollars. Clean title and carfax. One owner, and when I called the local rover specialist that I knew had been working on it from the carfax and asked them why it had so few miles on it they simply said "that guy has a lot of really nice cars to drive..." All new exhaust, and AC Condenser. Even has the window sticker, oh, and a Dog Guard. The only thing that does not work is the cruise (I am sure it is a bad vacuum hose) and the heated seats - big deal. Everything else is perfect - I mean practically showroom. Whatever shamrock I fell off better watch out - I am going to run it over with my new Rover!

BEFORE I say what I paid for it....what would you have paid? I feel that I got a very fair deal for what it is and the condition it is in....

With everything working good, and all OEM, it would go for @$12k IMHO.
Modified stereo and a couple of minor non working items, maybe $10k with those miles on it.
P38's in clean condition are going up in value from what I have seen.
Congratulations too!

Ok.. time for a longer reply from me. You got a rare Rover, I bet its worth teens to a collector. Is this the one from that "Park" dealer??
Plz put up pics of the luggage and the rear picnic tables!
Gotta love the rare P38s... my 30th is one of 400. The UK got 200, the US and world got one per dealer

Dude, Saw it on autotrader a little while ago. (Been working a conversion project at BAE) If you talked him down $1 on his asking price you stole it. Congrats!

Wow, that is a home run. I envy you ! And yes please fill up this thread with tons and tons of RR H&H porn

I was hoping for something from uber hifi land. Unfortunately the Kicker SoloBarics (i think they are L7 but could be wrong) are nothing to write home about - note I'm not a fan of Kicker and I don't follow their pricing. They are popular with the unwashed masses so i'd think you'd be able to get decent $ for them.

On the other hand the Eclipse (aka Fujitsu 10) is a nice unit - I'm guessing the nav is an external plug in module. Unfortunately they don't have much brand recognition so they don't command big $. Guessing about $150 for the headubnit and no idea on the nav module.

Looks like there's an amp or 2 where the factory subwoofer goes and I assume the bit opposite holding the CD shuttle (or is that the nav) is aftermarket too. I'd be interested to see the amp arrangement and wiring: this would tell you whether they've bypass the door amps or not.

I can't agree on the installation part OP as it really looks poor. Like most modern cars the P38 has the head unit built around (and considered) as part of the dash design and anything else always tends (to my eyes) look jarring and...well, wrong.
I'm sure you could pick up the original parts along the way and re install what was there. You'd get your spare wheel well back, the sub cover would actually cover a sub and the load cover would fit - which it doesn't look like it does now- presumably what looks to be the sub wiring being crushed on the left is one reason.
The only slight worry (depending on your plans) is that I can't see the two welded prongs that the load cover fits to, hopefully there still there, also the whole reason for this may have been the original DSP amp going. Just my two-penneth

I have the cargo cover and it fits fine and is not cracked/broken from bearing too much weight - I just put it in my garage along with the spare, carpet mats and the dog guard, the bags have already been resigned to my wife. It is wired up to an amp approx. 16" x 10" x 3" where the old OEM sub was. The sound is superb - none of that rattling over bass ghetto thump sound, just a nice rich, deep sounding bass, but alas - no picnic table now! However - I HATE, and I mean HATE the look of the head, it really stands out and, of course, has no steering wheel functionality. It is wired bypassing the door amps (I may be new to the forum, but not RR's) and the head has a separate function dial to turn the subs up/on. The opposite side holds the OEM Nav (which is still hooked up and works) as per usual set up for P38. I was thinking of taking the head from my 99 HSE, but I think I shook the life out of it on my last trail ride.....I am going to strip all the EAS parts off my 99 and convert over to heavy duty coils and 2" lift blocks, so I will have an abundance of spare parts to keep the EAS in running order on the H&H. Love the EAS....hate putting on an air spring on the side of the trail (I always bring a spare front and rear spring) and then hoping I can jumper the EAS and have it rise again - twice this worked, once it did not and I had to drive on the bump stops for 250+ miles!

I have no issues with how the back is finished - very clean, no wires exposed and the cover was designed so that it can still hold weight and maintain all the cargo space. The head certainly performs just fine, I just don't like how it breaks up the look of the dash - really stands out. Again, the sound itself is superb, so I am probably just going to leave it in. I would have to buy a OEM head for $500-600 bucks probably and then spend at least half a day wiring it in and it really does not seem worth it right now. I need all the extra time I have to refurbish my 99 HSE to be the best 4 x 4 x Far that I can build....

The truck could have some Dyna-mat in it. The Head unit does look a little cheap, but I doubt you can run all those amps off the factory HU. Maybe just upgrade to something that'd flow better? I've seen some nasty installs, and this is not one of them. We just put a JVC Arsenal in our Suburban, and you can change the colors, so it doesn't look so out of place.

Scotty on here, and any other used source I would say.
Hell, I got given one a few years back from another member. Never used it but can't remember where the hell it is now.
Just be sure to get the code to enter into it at the same time.
BTW how much was it in the end? You got the guesses you asked for, but then never mentioned it again....

13K - I know many will think I overpaid, but it really is in fantastic shape, and when you want it, you get it, ya know? While I was unable to get the price down, I was able to get a pile of free services worked into the deal....
I Probably coulld have bought a MKIII for that kind of money, but not with that low of mileage, and I really am a P38 fan. Besides, I was thinking REAL hard about buying a Defender from a guy for 28K and I am with the H&H, so I kept 15K in my pocket this way:)

Anything we buy, is worth what we want to pay for it, so no issues from my end:thumb:
Yeah, you could have got a Mk3 etc, but I do like your justification regards the Defender:lol:

NICE ! As for the Radio install, each to his own I say, RRtoadhall has made it clear he prefers the original mostly for its looks I'm guess, I on the other hand love the HK speaker setup but think the orginal headunits are all lack lustre to say the least. I can and do live with the trade off with the looks and loss of steering wheel buttons of an aftermarket with the much better sound.

BUT still need more pics !!! :)

If it was me I'd be looking at reupholstering the spare tyre cover in matching carpet - but make sure the carpet glues to the metal grill to avoid a slapping noise. I'd also track down some the the cheap factory side pieces for mounting din size headunits and put those in - I think that would improve the look of the headunit no end. the headie has nav and other bells and whistles so why bother replacing it?

Already bought the carpet rogan:dance: I am hoping to find some actual wood trim from a dead H&H that I can cut down to put on the sides in an effort to "blend" the unit in a little better. If anybody happens to stumble across some - please let me know. Also listed in the wanted section on the forum. Ideally I will find two pcs of trim that have the diamond shapped inlay in them - I think they would look nice on both sides of the stereo and fit perfectly.
