Hello people, I am new to this forum so excuse me for any mistakes.

I recently bought a 2014 L494 RANGE ROVER SPORT HSE DYNAMIC. Seller gave me two keys, one works completely fine, other one does not work. The battery in the other one was changed with two new batteries which were tested in Key #1 to make sure the battery is not at fault.

I suspect the seller has either gave me a key to a different RANGE ROVER or theirs a problem with it. I wanted to know about how other people's L494 Keys are because the two I have a visually different.

The one that works has a Grey plastic matte type of look on the back. The one that does not work has a gloss Black back. Also the "RANGE ROVER" is engraved differently on both keys.

Any theories or solutions would be helpful.

Both my keys are the matte variety. I think the shiny black one is from a different Range Rover, maybe an Evoque?
Do you know if the previous owner has multiple Range Rovers?

check to see if the blade key inside of it works to open the door. then you will know if it was not for your vehicle

Previous owner is a Insurance Trader. He has a contract of selling damaged cars which the insurance provides him.

The key that doesnt work has no blade inside.

There is your answer it was just something he threw in... You could have it tested to see if it is viable and could possible be programmed along with your other key. I think they need to program two keys at a time so bring it to a dealer and have them test it.

He lied to me with “Oh it probably just needs a battery”. So to the dealers it is.

I never had such issues with my key but once i locked keys in car, that moment was really frustrating for me and it ended up calling the dealership for help.
