If you had SAI (Secondary Air Injection) fitted i believe the vacuum canister goes to here.

The vacuum canister is right next door to the coolant expansion tank and under-hood fuse box.

No, nothing plugs into this, though if you think about how it works its purpose becomes clear...... with the engine running the plastic plug is pulled tight against the rubber seal, when the engine is off the plug becomes loose.......I think it is a simple anti run on valve, like the electrical device we used to have on the later model MGB's. Basically it depletes intake manifold vacuum preventing this run on, or dieselling as some people call it. Just my way of thinking anyway!
