Hey guys,

As we all know these cars are super picky about power drain so I was just wondering if having my old Iphone 4S connected via the Ipod port while the car is parked will drain power from the battery as it does not charge it when the car is on.

You answered your own thread...if the power is not on, and therefore the IPOD is not charging, exactly how do you have a drain...

That's like having a cig lighter which is used for charging, but only works when the ignition is on...it cannot drain once the ignition is turned off...

well I'm just going off from what I know about electrical stuff which admittedly is not as much as many here. Whenever anything with a battery is connected to anything with a battery then even if it is "off", there is power being transferred in one direction or another. Of course if this is true then in this case I'd rather just err on the side of caution and just disconnect the phone when I turn off the car or just not use it and put all my music on a USB. But if Soccernut tells us that he just leaves it connected all the time then maybe the power transfer is so minimal that it won't make a difference.

I could just use the USB but I'd like to leave that free for other things. Just looking for clarification is all.

If you can truly see that the Ipod is NOT charging when the car is turned off, you don't have to worry about a drain. At any rate, I presume you are not going weeks w/o driving the car anyway, and if for some reason the battery had dipped, by now you also have bought yourself one of the Microlight Rockford Lithium Battery Jump starters, so you'd be powered up in a jiffy anyway, right?
