Interior Panel Clip Source?

2756 Views 9 Replies 6 Participants Last post by  gkwait
So I was removing some of the interior panels to fix some rattles. One of the rattle sources is/was on the grey piece of plastic around the shift knob. I was able to remove the center piece with the switches(the overall center console did not have to be removed), but I lost one clip - there are 6 total on this piece, with the rear two actually glued in place to the removable panel(smart move!). Two other clips fell in but I was able to recover, one stayed on the panel, and one is missing presumed dead. These clips are not like the clips around the trim by the nav screen. The missing clip locks onto a plastic tab that then provides a spring out one side. I can get and post a picture.

So for a 2006 RRS, where is a source for the clips or do I have to go through the dealer??
Thanks!

Unless it's out of the way, for small stuff like that you may want to walk up to the dealer's parts dept. desk. Even with their customary 300% markup on everything  , retaining clips can't be more than a few bucks anyway, and at least you'll know for sure that what you are getting will fit your model. They pull up the Microcat schematics for you on their computer screen and you can just point at them without going crazy trying to get part #s, etc.

Yeah, I might just hit the dealer close to work and get them. It's only 5 minutes beyond the Schlep Boys I tried today - not sure why I didn't think it would be that simple.....

So did you get rid of the rattles and squeaks?
I hope that clip you dropped doesn't create more rattles... .

----- A few have been found:
- The upper grey trim piece around the shifter.
- Bottom edge of the climate control panel, although I haven't quite finished that one yet.
- Trim cover around the seat belt on the seat.

----- Looking for:
- Rattle near the back seat. Possibly the trim cover just below the cushion on the passenger side. Or this is near the back floor of the front passenger seat.
- One near the rear cargo area.

----- Yeah, I thought about that. After driving around for a few days I'm hoping it's settled to the bottom edge like the others did. I also had found a trim screw way down in the bottom, but I have no idea what that was from. Most likely during assembly(?)
I know ya'all were real concerned - found the missing clip. Once the center console was fully apart I could see it near the bottom. Did some other work while in there and will post in a new message once I've completed a test drive for a day.

So did you fix this one, and if so, how?. Mine drives me nuts

Just posted a few notes at: http://www.rangerovers.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=37665

Curious.
As you tear things apart hunting for rattles, how are you "fixing" them. I'm sure it is dependent on where they are at, but the comment like "Although I haven't quite finished that one yet" makes me think there is something special going on.

I'm thinking of taking a weekend and tearing the whole console apart, just don't know how to "fix" the rattles.
