Hi,

Urgent feedback needed please.

I drive a 1996 P38. Mosttimes when I go into rough patches while driving the following happens.

my instrument panel goes off I dont have any readings anymore.
My head light, Breaklight on the drivers side goes off.
All lights in the dashboard goes off.
The Lights in the Hevac control panel goes off.
If I stop and put the gear on Park I cant change it from there again till the lights come on.

The Auto Electrician says its a faulty Becm,But he cant answer my question on why it happens only when i go into pot holes or rough patches and why it comes up again when I also go into potholes and roughpatches and sometimes not at all.

Folks some answers please, I need help here.

Sounds more like a loose connection or ground. Without know what your mechaning has done (unless he is shooting in the dark) it's hard to narrow it down. It could be a bad BeCM, but it would most likely only be the power board which is easily swapped yourself. It could also be a loose ribbon cable in the Becm. Again, easily done yourself. The connectors at the BeCM have tabs that easily break off in wrmer climates, If you have a busted retaining tab you may have a main connector that is not seated.

Thanks guys,

Where is the power board. Please dont tell me to look it up at Rave.Cant seem to understand some stuffs there. Will it be possible to get a diagram of this.
If it is bad grounding where do I check for this.

Once more appreciate your response.

The power board it the upper of two printed circuit boards inside the BeCM. For Grounds i would download RAVE. RAVE electrical has photos of every grounding point in the vehicle.

Thanks Man, May I disturb u one more time.Which specific grounding point should I be looking for.
It's British, who said anything about only one ground? You'll need to read the schmatics and check any ground within those impacted circuits.

No offense meant, but if the RAVE gives you cause for concern, get a mechanic to look at it, explain the symptoms and ask him to check the grounds THEN the BECM.
This is probably over your comfort zone and you run the risk of causing more damage during your investigations.
